NHS report a “wake-up call” to rescue health and care services in Chippenham – Sarah Gibson MP
Sarah Gibson MP has said the Lord Darzi report into the state of the NHS must be a wake-up call for the government to rescue health and services across the Chippenham constituency.
The report said that the NHS is in a ‘critical condition’ and that since 2015, the NHS has missed every target for A&E, cancer and hospital treatment wait times.
Sarah Gibson MP said that the new government must urgently invest in Wiltshire’s local health services with accessing care being the biggest challenge facing their constituents.
In the wake of the report, the Liberal Democrats have called on the government to make fixing the NHS and care its top priority and to recruit more GPs, fix crumbling hospitals and enter into cross-party talks on tackling the crisis in social care.
Liberal Democrat MP for Chippenham, Sarah Gibson, said:
“This report must act as a wake-up call to fix our local health and care services on the brink. Just yesterday I told the House of Commons that we have a dentistry desert and a real problem accessing GPs in Wiltshire.
”The top priority of this new government must be fixing our NHS so people can finally get the care they deserve. That is why I am continuing to push the Secretary of State for Health to: fix access to NHS dentistry in Chippenham – especially in light of what has happened with Hathaway; ensure that a new health centre in Calne is a key part of the plan to focus on community health; and cut GP waiting times across the constituency.
“Tackling the health and care crisis was at the heart of my election campaign, and I am now putting it at the heart of my work in Parliament.
